Company Overview

  • The biopharmaceutical company Pharnext was founded in April 2007 by Professor Daniel Cohen and his main collaborators. It has 25 staff, including most of the founders who work full time for the company.
  • Pharnext's mission is to discover and develop new therapeutic solutions (PleodrugsTM) and companion tests for unmet medical needs (large and niche markets) by using the PleotherapyTM approach.
  • Pharnext runs all its own activities, from research through to clinical development (no further than the end of Phase II trials), and then licenses the PleodrugsTM to industrial partners.
  • Pharnext's core expertise is based on reconstructing extensive disease networks for its target indications. This type of biological information is considered to be the "missing link" in pharmaceutical research. To this end, Pharnext has set up a proprietary, integrated "drug discovery" platform called Nexus that is based on system biology, human genomics and multi-factorial pharmacology.
  • Pharnext's prime focus is on neurodegenerative diseases and metabolic diseases, although its platform and approach are applicable to any disease.
  • R&D programs are ongoing on Charcot Marie Tooth (CMT) disease and then in several major indications (including Alzheimer's disease and type II diabetes) and have corresponding patent portfolios.
